Research activities at the Centre for Pain Medicine
Our interdisciplinary team plus national and international cooperative partnerships allow us to carry out scientific research activities. In addition to other projects, the following are our main research interests:
Project: Virtual walking
Together with the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art, a therapy setting has been developed where wheelchair users with chronic pain can see themselves walking in a video projection. This visual impression has an impact on the participants’ disturbed perception of their body and the associated pain. Anybody with a spinal cord injury affected by this is welcome to contact us.

Project: Chronic post-surgery pain
Chronic pain frequently occurs after surgery. We are currently carrying out a study where we are using various measuring methods to record disturbances of sensitivity on surgical scars in order to be able to better understand the possible involvement of nerves and to derive therapeutic options.

Project: Pain groups
The scientific evaluation of our outpatient pain group programmes is of great importance to us. We are currently carrying out a study to investigate the efficacy of a multimodal pain programme for patients with chronic lower abdominal pain.
