Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) is a medical speciality in charge of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of functional limitations and disabilities. Its mission is to improve quality of life for persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities and to help them navigate daily living, work and leisure time to the maximum extent possible.

The specialists at PMR work with an interdisciplinary team that includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, psychology, social advice and other medical and therapeutic divisions. At the Swiss Paraplegic Centre Nottwil (SPC) we practise in accordance with the world-renowned International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the treatment model focuses on physical, mental and social aspects. This holistic approach provides patients with comprehensive support that is tailored to the individual needs and goals of each individual.
