Nutritional Therapy
Individualised nutritional therapy and counselling
Adequate nutrition is a factor that should not be underestimated in the initial rehabilitation of people with a spinal cord injury or other similar conditions, as well as when complications arise.
The main focus of nutritional therapy and counselling is on the medical history and on individual nutritional habits and lifestyle. People with a spinal cord injury are given optimal care based on competent specialist knowledge and practical recommendations. There is close cooperation with further disciplines such as medicine, speech therapy, nursing, kitchen and hotel services.
Science meets practice
Since 2002, the Swiss Paraplegic Centre (SPC) has provided services in the specialist area of nutritional medicine.
Insights from further training courses and scientific know-how are used in everyday clinical practice. Combined with the team's many years of experience, this results in optimal care for people with a spinal cord injury.
Research projects are used to gain new insights in the field of spinal cord injuries and nutrition. A specific screening tool is available to identify the risk of nutritional deficiencies and malnutrition in the case of a spinal cord injury.
The department is associated with the Swiss Association of Registered Dieticians (SVDE)
