Wheelchair rugby was developed in the late 1970s in Canada and is now played in more than twenty countries around the world and is a Paralympic sport. In Canada it was first known as murder ball. It was then named quad rugby in the USA. In the late 1980s, the sport was then officially renamed wheelchair rugby outside the United States. It is a mixture of rugby and volleyball.
